Get this… Hungarian scientists are working on computer
software that analyzes dog barks so people can better
recognize their emotions.
It’s true.
And get this… the researchers tested the software in 6
situations: when the dog is alone, when it sees a ball, it
fights, it plays, it encounters a stranger or it goes for
a walk.
But here’s the best part: The computer correctly recognized
the emotional reaction of the dogs based on their barks and
yelps in 43 percent of the cases. People had judged correctly
in 40 percent of cases.
Scientists said the software could be improved.
Why is this important to you?
Imagine if your dog could let you know that they need to go
outside to pee, or if your dog could let you know that they
are pent up and need some exercise before they chew your shoes.
Unfortunately, we have to make do without the software and we
have to communicate what is acceptable and un-acceptable behavior
in the house.
It is one of the reasons I developed the Good K9 Manners course.
The course will help you communicate to your dog that:
* Chewing
* Jumping
* Stealing
* Unruly Behavior
* Barking uncontrollably
are all un-acceptable behaviors.
In case you missed it in yesterday’s Train Your Dog TV, you
can get the Good K9 Manners course for less than you think.
Go to Good K9 Manners and type DOGTVMANNERS and you’ll
get the reduced price.
This won’t last long.
Good K9 Manners and don’t forget DOGTVMANNERS.
All the best,
Eric

Last Thursday night the lovely Rachael and I went to see the great Leon Redbone with her parents at a funky little bar in Northampton, MA.
If you don’t know, Leon was the voice of the snowman in the movie “Elf.” He also sang “It’s Cold Outside” with Zooey Deschanel in the movie. Leon is very unique and puts on a great show. If you ever get the chance go check him out.
Anyway, as I was watching him on stage I remembered what Frank Sinatra said about preforming, he stated:
“Anyone who needs anything more than a light and a microphone is a punk.”
Leon goes on stage with a guitar and a microphone and everyone’s eyes are glued to him through out the entire performance.
I guess I was thinking about that because one trainer that really changed the way I trained was Dr. Ian Dunbar. Before learning from him training was all about collars, leashes, harnesses, etc. Dr. Dunbar was the first trainer I ever saw that trained dogs with out a leash or collar. It was amazing and I changed the way I trained forever.
When I first started training dogs it was an adversarial relationship. Corrections, punishment, and harsh tones. Dr. Dunbar’s methods taught the owner and the dog to work more like a team.
Dr. Ian Dunbar has been a huge influence for dog trainers and owners all over the world. He has tirelessly promoted positive training methods for years. Please leave your comments below.

“I once decided not to date a guy because he wasn’t
excited to meet my dog. I mean, this was like not
wanting to meet my mother.” – Bonnie Schacter, Founder
of the Single Pet Owner’s Society Singles Group
I saw the above quote and thought of a girl I once went on
a date with. Half way though the dinner the discussion of
dogs came up and she said, “I really don’t like dogs.”
Stunned I asked why. She said that people that have dogs
are kind of crazy. She couldn’t understand why some dog
owners buy clothes, gourmet food, doggie beds, toys, etc.
In the middle of her extended speech on why she doesn’t
like dogs I held up my hand and asked her to stop. I also
called the waiter over and paid the bill.
I politely informed her that this would never work out
between us. Stunned she asked why. I told her that I
have four dogs at home and they all have their own closets
for their clothes.
I was kidding about the closets but she felt the same about
me and we parted ways.
Anyway, I was thinking of her the other day when I saw the Magic
Poop trap. You won’t beleive this video. If you have one minute
check it out. I don’t think I’ll ever use one for my dogs but who
knows – maybe they’ll catch on.
Check out this video
All the best,
Eric
P.S. Housetraining can be a big problem for a lot of dog
owners but not when you have the Housetraining Handbook.

Exercise for dogs is an important topic to discuss. One of the main reasons we have behavior problems with dogs is there lack of exercise. Pent up energy in dogs can create havoc in most households. It’s important to understand that there are two types of exercise for dogs: Mental exercise and physical exercise.
It’s good to give your dog mental activities to do when you are away for long periods of time. In the videos you’ll see my two favorite types of mental exercises for dogs.
