It’s true.and that’s why I have a video for you to watch. It’s all about hugging your dog. Now, before you think I’m nuts there are a lot of good reasons why you should hug your dog.

One of them is safety.

  3. Richard says:

    Very good tip Eric.
Respect and trust between you and your dog makes for a solid fondation to build on. Frequent handling and lots of play sessions will sure help to gain confidence and leadership. You need to establish yourself as the leader and always control all of the activities, never let the dog decides when to play or get hugged or get fed. He will then see you as the source for all these good things and trust you. For example, if my girl comes to beg for a play session, I do not even pay attention, I need to be the one initiating it to gain trust and respect. Be constant in your training! Good trainng to all.

Thanks for the interesting material. I am happy to have no problem with hugging my beloved dog boxer Rocky.
The only thing he doesn`t like is checking his ears. Hopefully nothing wrong inside – just clean and nice.

Best regards to all dog lovers !

Eric, your tips and advice are always fantastic. The counter surfing was my favorite and worked great. I plan to get your online training program when money isn’t so tight. Keep up the fantastic work, you are the best.

I enjoy your videos and training programs.
I am trying to bell train my 5 yr. old shih tzu. She has not had a good week. When I had company.. Cannot give up. she is here to stay.
She is a real piece of work..

  8. Chuck says:

Not only does handling exercises help build trust between you and your dog, but your Vet will appreciate having a dog that is accustomed to being handled.

  9. Joyce says:

Thank you for your informative tips! Didn’t know I was doing something right. I have been handling Candy since she was 7 weeks old- she is a little over 2 years old now and a handful. But she does let me touch her all over and especially retrieve stuff out of her mouth that she should not be eating- especially paper. I call it dumpster diving since she is a pretty good size dog- about 50 pounds and a shepard mix.

  10. Jeanette says:

Great tip Eric – our 7 month black lab gets loads of hugs becuase we have kids and it was really tested this weekend when he happily let a 7 month old baby pull on his ears without any aggression at all!!

Even tho this is not a challenge with my GSD it ws a good vidoe to watch . The most useful tip I have gotten from you so far is “Off” and teaching her not to jump on people. Within 1 day she improved %90. Thank you.
